Neo-Revoltech Getter Dragon Review and Gallery
Snaz-zee... Late thoughts on this nice toy.

I actually got this figure the month it was released, but laziness got the best of me, and a review was delayed. Plus the photos I took then didn't please me. Well, I say to heck with it and posted them anyway, including ones I took of the LE Black version. Ah, you're here for the review and the pics in any case, so let's get to it!

This Getter Dragon's version is from the 1998 anime "Shin (Change!!) Getter Robo: The Last Day of the World". Good figure proportions all around that capture the OVA's fat robot bodies very well. 12 Revolver joints supply most of the 18 points of articulation. Even some of the supplied hands move at the wrist, which is pretty sweet. The figure can move its limbs freely

The toy is painted all-over actually, not a bare piece of uncolored plastic to be seen. Very accurate to the anime colors too, if a bit more shiny. Like a new red muscle car of DEATH! The paintwork on mine is pretty clean, especially the fine-lining, which is a definite plus.

The Dragon comes with a few accessories; apart from the requisite extra hands (two extra pairs) and the stand and extra attachments, it comes with two wing parts you attach to the shoulders, two tomahawks for it to hold, and a nifty double tomahawk boomerang that you can actually spin when you attach it to the stand. I love that.

The toy also comes with two extras I also like; another head you can attach that has a Getter Beam effect part attached to it...

And a ground effect part you can put down to simulate the Getter Beam hitting the ground. Great for re-enacting those Getter versus Getter fight scenes.

Really great-looking figure overall. My only gripe about it being the wings attached to the shoulder. Since they are connected that way, they look kinda cumbersome when you put them on and you move the arms about. Pretty much a minor thing in any case, and they still look pretty cool.

Plus, you get to make some "Batman: Beyond" poses with them too. Hehehe...

Hobby Japan commissioned Kaiyodo to release a limited edition of this as well. Sporting a black color scheme, it's a mean-looking S.O.B. of a robot. It doesn't have much in the way of accessories, (extra hands and stand, no tomahawks or beam effects) but there's a reason for that...

It has a FREAKING BIG GETTER LASER CANNON! I mean, look at all that plastic on that gun. And it's not hollow too. It's pretty damn solid. About as heavy as the figure itself. The Black Dragon can actually hold the thing too. Without falling over. AND without the stand. No really. You have to find the sweet spot pose though, which isn't too hard.

See? The gun never appeared in the anime actually. It's a weapon that has only appeared in the Super Robot Wars series of games.

The Black Dragon also has an extra head, this time wrapped in bandages and sporting two really-pissed-off looking red pupils. A really nice bonus (apart from the awesome gun of course) that pays homage to the Black Getter Robo that appeared in the same anime (the Black Dragon didn't have an appearance). These two accessories make the Black version more than just another repainted LE in my book. And Revoltech has enough of those, seriously. Comrade B-Mecha has more pics of this toy here.

Love playing with these two toys, and the knowledge that another Getter Robo is being made into a Revoltech is making me plenty giddy. If you're interested in buying one, Hobby Link Japan has them on sale right now. The Black version you're gonna have to do some hunting and sniping in EBay. Also, there's an official papercraft diorama you can download. It's the Saotome Research Institute, with a few broken Getter Dragon parts. If you're a super robot fan, don't pass this great toy up.

Thanks to all everyone who read this post. However, I would like to know how you guys found it, as it currently is not visible in the member's post list (though I know it should be, since I clicked it to be).
Nevermind. Figured out what happened. Better not do what I did again.
Haha this seems like an awesome revoltech I'll probably pick it up thanks to this review any idea how much the black dragon costs?
Hmm... I would say $70 on EBay? I got mine for around $40 or so with shipping. Good luck hunting! Comrade BMecha also is selling a few if you're interested. Just check his site out.
Thanks I might check it out when I get paid.
