How did you earn for a Dollfie?

It'd been a while since my last post and I've been seeing the increase of "Newly adopted daughters" posts here in Figure.fm and I've grown jealous of you guys. XD

So this post is simply to ask: How did you earn/save enough money to acquire your Dollfie Dream?

I've long been wanting to get my own DD but it'll take quite "grave" measures to actually get one. It's pretty hopeless, but I still want to know how you guys acquire your dollfies... especially those who have no jobs.

*raises arm* "Student here! =3"

Picture above: DD Rin Tohsaka from Volks JP website. My wanted Dollfieeee~!

Well, first I sold my soul to the devil.. What was left of it anyways...

Then, I started taking contracts out for the mafia.. they paid pretty good.. but the FBI kept calling.. so I had to change my business again..

After that, I started just donating for money at the sperm bank, thats actually been pretty lucrative..

    Really just saved the cash

Can't say that I own a DD, but I am planning to get one (thinking about Rin too ^^)
Do you know where they sell DD Rin online. Can't find it, except on the Volks site, which is Japanese and I can't read it. Do wonder if they still sell it.
Back to your questions how to earn/save money. Don't spend too much on useless stuff, saves money. Try selling useless stuff, earns money. Those are my kind ways of saving money for my next (usually expensive) purchase, whatever that is.
Hope this will help you with saving up the money to get your DD.

The majority of DDs, Rin included, were limited editions released at Volks' Dolls Party (aka Dollpa) events. After the event is over, Volks will sell remaining dolls online, through a "lottery" system, where people who get the chance to buy the doll are chosen randomly. (This prevents their servers from dying in the midst of a clickfest. If you find posts about the DD Gathering back in October, you'll see what happens when Volks doesn't use the lottery system.) However, this means that limited dolls aren't available on the Volks site after the events are over, usually.

If you're after an already released girl, like Rin, you're going to have to look around the aftermarket. This means Yahoo Japan Auctions usually, though occasionally you'll get lucky and find one on Mandarake's site or on Den of Angels. Unfortunately in Rin's case, her price on YJA is sometimes double retail, and you'll need a proxy service too, which usually will charge you an extra ten percent on top of what you paid in the auction. You can sometimes get lucky and find auctions for saner prices, though you'll do a lot of waiting and lurking to catch one that way. (The problem is that, unlike eBay, there is no fee on YJA for relisting an unsold auction, so you'll keep seeing the same stupidly overpriced auctions week after week.)

      Good luck, guys! If you're after Rin, you'll probably need it. ^^;

Which, quite frankly, I personally don't even consider. I'll check eBay once in a blue moon, but since I keep finding the same extended buy-it-now listings that are all at least twice retail, it's not worth it. At least on YJA if you're patient someone will list a sane asking price, even if it only happens every few months. Why, last week I even saw both Nanoha and Fate go for $200 under their original retail! Couldn't bite because my own DD fund is pretty measly right now, but hey, there's hope!

I don't know where you live or how old you are, but if you have a "burning passion" for what you are going for, anything is possible. If you are below the legal age to have a job, then you should ask your parent if you can do extra chore around the house to earn more spending money, start asking around the neighborhood you live in and see if there are stuff you can help them work on, such as cutting grass, shoveling snow, help them repair their fences or what not; you have to be reasonable for the amount of compensation though.

"Focus" and "Good intention" will always help you through any obstacles.

And lastly, if that would be a piece of information that can prove to be the light at the end of the tunnel. The market price for Rin has been steadily trending down, but still well over the initial MSRP, at approximately 150% for a 2nd hand Rin.

    Good luck in your endeavor.

When you say you're a student, do you mean high school or college? Either way, I think that's the best time to get one! 'Cause if you're living at home and don't have to worry about bills, you can put any money you make from a part time job into your dollfie savings. - -b

The money I owe back in student loans every month is about half the price of a dollfie dream. |D I regret not buying one sooner. Just try to be frugal with your other spendings and I'm sure you'll be there in no time!

I'm in High School. If I try to save up for DD Aoi or Yukino, it'll take my 10 months allowance (not a single penny spent) till I can acquire them. I'm willing to take that sacrifice, though I'm just trying if there can be a faster way... I'm trying to look for part time jobs around the neighborhood, like in our sports club.

Just like what everyone else is saying, you have to work your butt off to earn something you want, whether that be for getting an 'A' in school, saving money, finding a job, etc. Your effort and dedication determines how far or close you reach from your goal. I got my Sasara Dollfie by working hours and hours at my part time job, and saving for almost a year, and I finally acquired it. So, my advice in getting a Dollfie is to find a way to earn money(legally), look for a job, if you can't find one keep looking for it, you'll find one, and lastly SAVE IT UP, you don't want to spend much on other things. Well, that's all I can say for you. Good Luck!!

I could sell my "precious things" but if I do, my parents would notice and they'd start questioning me.

If I sell my PsP, that would fill around 1/4 of my Dollfie budget already, and that's a lot. Without selling my PSP, and having only my daily allowance to save (no part time job, chore money, etc.) it'll take me 6 months to save up for a DD Yukino or Aoi (not including tax).

I was going to sell my soul to the devil, unfortunately I gave it to someone else as an offering a few years ago and there's no chance of getting it back. So, I resorted to the next best thing, called up the people who owed me and maybe take a few transporter jobs. Then I held the devil for ransom.

Seriously though, Rin was my first musume. Pretty much the lynch pin after a long time of admiring Ball-jointed resin dolls and vinyl dolls. I tried out for the Volks lottery not expecting to get a chance to get her. Lo and behold, I get an email the following day that I can adopt her. Took about 4 months to complete pay her off my CC debt then I ended up getting 2 more; Mikuru and Sasara, whom I am still paying off till next month.

I'm saving up for a DD too! Well I think it'd be much cheaper to buy a head and body, faceup it yourself or get someone to do it for you. Look around on eBay, leekeworld, mimiwoo or dollmore for wigs, eyes and what not. It might be cheaper, I'm not sure.
As for money, you should be able to actually get a job if you're under 16, as long as it's not heavy work, so you can stack shelves and stuff. Good luck!

Hmmm... Buying a body, wig, head (with no faceup and eyes), eyes, and some simple clothes will be just the same as buying a basic character (Yukino or Aoi). If you ask someone to give it a faceup for you, it'll be a bit more expensive.

Body: 22,000 Yen (they don't have stocks is Volks)
Head: 4,000 Yen (they don't have stocks on hole-eyed ones)
      Eyes: 1,000 Yen
Wigs: Around 4,000 Yen I presume?
Simple Clothing Sets: Around 5,000 Yen
Faceup: around 1,400 Yen I believe
Total: around 37-38,000 Yen plus you have to go through all the work

Basic DD Characters (Aoi and Yukino): 40,000 Yen
Yukino is cute enough for me. ^____^

Dollfie Dream dolls did not exist when I was a high school student (im old.. haha) Well back when I was a student since I was 16 I always had part time jobs here and there to pay for my anime and other stuff I wanted. And withs steady part time jobs by 18 I was able to get a credit card to help me buy online stuff more easily. Though the risk with credit card is to buy more than what you can pay for, but you learn soon enough not to do it ^^.

Now I work fulltime but even before I did I was able to save enough money to buy some of the dolls I wanted. It's all about priority, do you want a brand new car and brand new latest model cell phone and brand new latest model mp3 players and brand new in style clothes and brand new etc... I have a pretty average income but I learn to save money different ways. First I don't buy a brand new car, I buy used car, I have the same computer since 6 years ago (it was the best model back then lol) I use the free cellphone that friends dont want anymore and I dont pay any expensive cellphone contracts, I don't spend too much on new clothes (I wait for sales) and don't spend too much on restaurants and cook at home most the time. I should probably put more money into savings... but I choose to invest in dolls instead lol.

That makes perfect sense. Maybe by the time I get enough money for Yukino, I'd ask my parents to get me my own credit card under them so I can buy my Yukino. They would never let me use their credit cards even if I promise to pay for what I'm about to get. So I just end up waiting for the shelf release of the anime stuff I want such as Figmas.

Hmmm.. But if my parents ask "what do you need a credit card for?" and I say "a doll..." *crickets*

hehe that's why I got a part time job and got a credit card under my name as soon as I could, so I didn't have to get my parents approval for everything. I wouldn't get a regular allowance, I had to say what I needed the money for each time or go shopping with my mom which was most annoying when I was 14-16 or so.

Had a large bulk of cash stored away (and I mean LARGE) and couldn't decide what to do with it. Then I met my first love, Suigintou. Now I have Rin as well.

What happened to Disney? Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland does not compare to the original animation. I remember when I was a child I would watch films like The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians and be amazed! Now, Disney has gone downhill and its films seem to be getting worse and worse as time goes by. If you ask me, many http://www.dozenkids.com like Disney's should not be listed on the top category of sites like
    http://www.twitter.com/dozenkids.
Is it time for us to realize that Disney is not really what it used to be and in fact it now scraping the barrel of entertainment?

I earned my Ryomou dollfie by force and overwhelmed the owner of it with a match. (real swords, not that bokken method.) If you want it, you'll have to defeat me with a sword match and make me fall down on one knee.

    like everyone else said, work....

and if you have trouble find part-times because of your area or other causes, I can suggest one thing that worked out pretty nice for me when I was young.

Make your parents some offers... Let them know this is what you really wanted, and if you can offer help with work, chores around the house for some extra cash or a finance plan with them.

For my example, I learned how to do hardwood flooring by reading books(internet wasn't very common when i was young *roll eyes*). Did some sample work on a small room in the house, parents were happy about my workmanship, offered them a deal to do the whole house over my summer holidays for extra cash to buy my first car.

It may not even have to be something that big... maybe your parents house can use a new paintjob on the walls, needed some garden work... could be anything... parents usually will be happy to help you out with money on your hobbies as long as you show you are willing to work for it.

About approaching my parents... well, if I can only tell them that a Dollfie is what I really want, then this would've been over in a snap of a finger and I would've had tons of dollfies by now. My problem on the other hand is that I can't just tell my parents, "Mom, I want a doll!" XD

well, don't have to get into too much detail i guess, just approach them saying you wanted to earn some extra cash for your hobbies. The point is.. demonstrate that you are willing to work hard for your goals :)

Of cause if you can just go get a part time, it'll be much easier.. this was a suggestion assuming if you cannot work part time for what ever reason.

        good luck man
