Otaku at Work

Posted by lonecow [www]

I see a lot of people's rooms on here which is great and I've used a lot of idea's at home, but I was curious to see how people deck out their 9-5 office's if they have one. I'm a video editor by trade so my boss is a little open minded about letting me display these, though I think I take it a little far sometimes.

Above my computer I have a montage of pics from my trip to Japan in 2008. On my left is Mio rockin' out above her speaker, and to the left is Hatsune putting on a concert.

Saber the note taker.

Although I usually have her posed, I decided to put her to work, so now she holds my editing notes for me.

Hatsune helps as well. She also has a secondary job of holding/charging my iPhone for me.

Transformers guard the Printer. I have all my Rodimus Primes (Hot Rod's) in front and the rest of the crew in the back.

She can really blow minds and souls with this set up.

I've hired Konata as my manager. She is in charge of handing out business cards.

I have the rest of my work figures in a bin above my head, where they will periodically switch shifts with the other girls (and robots) on duty.

Thanks! I do a fair amount of both. I work for a bigger corporate company and they need anything from training videos to Discovery Channel type stuff. Then I do freelance stuff as well. Wherever the money is, I'll do it.

Hmm.. Interesting. I also kinda interested working as animator or video editor.
But since i study about psychology it`s kinda hard for me to work in design... T.T (even though i often got work at editing video and designing...)

    Very nice.
Unfortunately I can't afford to display anything else than my wallpaper at work. My colleagues don't even have a faint trace of social acceptance let alone understanding my hobbies. Such cruel world... I prefer to dream at the day I will get my own business up and running; then I won't care about what others think at work. Also on a side note it's pretty obvious that with more social acceptance in the work environment the productivity of people will improve since work will become fun.
Wow long post is soooooooo long sorry if I bored anyone, I'll go in the corner and stand there for 1 hour....

    Nice desk, and good you're able to take your hobby to work a bit. I only worked at an office once for my internship and now I'm doing my thesis at uni, but I would never dream taking any fig there.....people aren't so understand. Plus the cleaning staff might nab 'em at the end of the day ^^;;

BTW your business card is funny :p

I do get strange looks from some of the more corporate people who work upstairs when they come and ask for a video. Most say, "Looks like Toys R Us down here". But you also have a few closet fans who say, "Hey I love that show." etc.

As for cleaning, I have had to put a few notes around at times telling them not to dust certain areas because the figures are fragile. One broken leg later, my Soul of Chogokin Eva had to learn that the hard way. He got sent home on workers comp.

Yep that is Asimo. Saw him at the Tokyo Science and Future Museum (or something like that). My friend got some good video of him running.

I have thought about setting up some figures at my work desk. Only problem is I work at a millwork shop and the office is attached to the work shop. Needless to say all of the sawdust and crap comes into the office and piles up in layers. :X

Id love to have figures at work, but things sadly get stolen amongst co-workers there. Which sucks.

I bet it makes the working environment more homely. But I feel more at ease with my anime figurines/statues in my room.

It's called Frame. It took me a while to find something that would let me choose the background picture and then display it horizontally like that, but that did the trick.

I have a lot of random junk in my cubicle at work (mostly broken computer parts and stuff). I've managed a small figure display and a poster, but that's about it. I also have a nice dual screen wallpaper of Yoko.

Maybe I'll snap some pictures today...

Sounds cool. I too started small and then kept adding and adding. I think thats the best way to do it, because no one notices if you do a little at a time. And then before they know it POW, it's everywhere. lol

When I first started, I kept Aya and Maya figures from Tenjoh Tenge at my desk. I got a few strange looks. I try to rotate every so often, but it's hard for me to find figures in my collection that I deem "low risk" for being swiped/damaged/ridiculed.

Yeah I try to keep it pretty clean at work.

I didn't take a picture of it but I also have the KidRobot Gorillaz figures. The Murdoc one is of him in his tidey whiteys. I had it up for a while but after too many strange looks I had to shelf him.
