This is interesting, you took courage to write something "creative" about dollfies and now you don`t want anybody to read it. Why you removed the link?, some people have the right to read your masterpiece. So, because I want to help you, here's your link again...^^ and with the photo you originally post it

By using my photos, I am assuming you have some beef with me. Let me make one thing clear, I have watching Gundam since before you were born or in diaper, so I know what I am doing; go finish school, get a job, work 15 years then come back and try to flame me.

Well so the article is taken down and author supposedly banned from figure.fm? But honestly I don't see that article as being of a hater's rant. He has his opinion and expressed it, not particular IMO as a hater but just as someone who has a different opinion with a bit of "creative" writing so to speak. If figure.fm is a community, then shouldn't community voice how such post should be treated rather than simply taken down? With the way it is handled here seems like a content police by the site owner. Now I don't mind policing if that's what the site owner wants to do, after all it is your site. But I though this is a area for the community as a whole, and there obviously will be different opinions in the community. If heavy policing (for "positive" posts) is the the way around here, I would be afraid to say this figure's quality is bad, that doll's clothing is bad, this shop's service is bad, and so on here now.

Now this is the actually the first time I read any post by the author of the post. And honestly I don't agree with him since I also owns a few dolls and made a few doll related posts here. I'm not upset about the author's post after I read it, nor do I category him as a your typical hater. However, difference of opinion aside, I'm way more concerned about the level policing that just happened here.

Using other's picture when creating your own content is part of fair use. The following taken directly from Wiki.

"Fair use is a doctrine in United States copyright law that allows limited use of copyrighted material without requiring permission from the rights holders, such as for commentary, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching or scholarship."

And this case is for commentary and maybe criticism. No you don't need to ask for permission first. And if it were for content policing then I say that article should be restored! If it's for content policing, then site owner please make a stand and make the point clear.

Okay I forgot, the site is in Japan, and so being that I'm not familiar with copyright laws in Japan and how it is applied to the publishing world, I take back my word that that article's use of photo is perfectly legal. Instead that article is perfectly legal in US and Canada. So if constructive use of copyrighted material for commentary or criticism (and so on...) is not represented as "fair use" in Japan then I really need to know.

I don't care he used my picture to be honest. I put Creative Commons license on all the stuff I post on Flickr. He was welcome to use it, just ask it links back to the source page. As long as its not being used for commercial use and links back I'm fine with my stuff being used.

When I had my last site I would create content and come to find it floating around all over the place with no links back to the original. So I had to start tagging my stuff and people would continue to steal it. I upload stuff to Flickr because I want to share it, all I ask is that people do link back to it if they use it.

As far as his commentary goes. I don't hold any ill will towards the guy for it. Like Danny has said numerous times, life's to short to worry about such things.

Let me just say I agree with your all on it would be nice to do what you described and such. I'm a content creator myself I and I do understand what you are saying. And what I am stating below has nothing to do with the very post's content, but only to do with the way other people's media is being reference.

Let me state purely on the general statement of fair use in US and Canada here. Based on fair use, there's no requirement for the person creating their own content to provide reference to the original material he/she referenced. Meaning that if you want to post a movie on YouTube with your baby dancing to Prince song "Let's Go Crazy", you don't need to publish the fact that this is Prince song or provide a link to Prince's web site in order to be legally qualified as fair use. You can extend that to other medias accordingly. Also commercial or not, because this post is clearly a commentary / criticism which certainly consists of mostly original content created by the creator, it can use your material commercially legally.

Now hard cold facts aside, do we content creator want a link back? Yes. We may or may not like our content being used in one ways or another either. And it certainly be nice for other content creators to reference source materials and/or honour the original content creator's wishes. However, just like the baby dancing to Prince song case, it is not required by law. So just simply directly referencing a picture in your commentary or criticism, while not a courteous thing to do, but certainly in this particular case there's nothing wrong on it.

      I'm fine about expressing opinions.
I'm not fine about attacking others.
I'm not fine about figure.fm becoming a YouTroll where folks cant be bothered to upload their own content in fear from getting bashed.

      Creative you say?

Apparently, you need the approval from your board of dollfies before you can purchase a new member.

Awesome - hire that man immediately.

If I landed on a site where I saw people flaming each other then I would be very unlikely to join. Figure.fm is for nice folks who are passionate about what they love and share their interests with others. My impression is that they are go-getters in life and know what they want. They are achievers.

Complainers generally don't know what they want in life which is why they have ample time to flame others and blame others for their current predicament in life.
In this case, somebody is dictating what others hobbies should be and how others should lead their life.

Neither I or any moderators have taken down reviews of posts which express poor quality for figures. However, some folks who step through the stargate and don't come back are generally folks who express ill intentions to others.

Life is tooooooooooooooo short to spend time on dealing with trolls. I would also advise trolls to focus on what they want from life rather than spend it hating people they don't even know. Life is a precious hour glass that has been given to us and the sands of time are running out fast. Lets do something positive with that sand before its all gone.

Points taken. Personally though about the line on

"Apparently, you need the approval from your board of dollfies before you can purchase a new member."

Well I take a laugh at it. Again I own three dollfies currently myself so I'm obviously part of the "target" as well. But at times I am amused at myself for having exactly having the same kind of thinking.

But perfectly fine, I'm not trying to open a debate here. I honour the decision. I just want the reasoning in the clear.

This is not an ideal place for any heavy or sensitive discussion. I think there are plenty of forums out there for those matter.

Voicing one's opinion is one thing but it's another thing to slap on people just because he can't understand their choice of hobby. The tone is just too immature for this community.

Frankly, I don't care what anyone thinks of my choice of hobby. If a two foot tall, humanoid shaped object made of PVC and ABS plastic freaks someone out enough to write a flamey tirade that basically says we're all pervs, it reflects more on the person who wrote the tirade than on the two foot tall humanoid vinyl object.

Expressing ones personal opinion is one thing, kicking dirt in the face of decent people unprovoked is by far quite another. I don't suppose you've exercised much research behind the hobby at all, after taking a "quick" scan of the page. Not trying to throw fuel on the fire but, I'll exercise some TACT and point to one of the rules for the site that MOST community people here already know: "No Drama". Plain and simple.

As the mother of two wonderful daughters, I can honestly say that I didn't take offense to this at all. This is just a harmless piece of literature that I think is quite creative and not meant to offend or hurt anyone in any way. People take their hobbies too seriously, and it saddens me that people actually took offense to this. I have a serious case of the doll flu, and I was laughing as I read this. I think, at the very least, we should be able to laugh at ourselves and find humor in what others consider a bizarre hobby. Be proud to be bizarre!

I am pretty sure "creative writing" and "humor" can be achieved without resort to calling names (being specific) and without overly use of negative connotations (stereotype). May be he tried to be funny, but it couldn't hide the fact that he was trying to take a stab us. I am always ready for serious discussion, because I am a serious man.

What I find quite hilarious about all this is that an anime fan who builds Gundam models flames anime fans who have Dollfies and claims a conspiracy by Danny to advertise and push Dollfies onto readers. This is ironic since whether or not Danny may 'spread Dollfie madness' (so to speak), he originally posted a lot of Gundam model stuff so undoubtedly if that had still been so the poster would have clamored Danny as some sort of saint.
Guess that shows the Bill Cosby quote Danny uses remains oh so very true.

Yeah, it is too bad we can't help the guy. He states that no comments are removed but out of the 42 responses, only 41 are visible. I think it is best that only a few people saw the original post and that the corrections he made does show improvement. However, those who have read the edited version miss out on the whole picture. The fact that he had to close off comments to his supposedly "attention gathering" topic means he still has a lot to learn. Not everyone grows up with unconditional positive regard (an act of acceptance and support of a person regardless of what the person says or does.)and see themselves in negative ways that others have made them feel. While he is a student writer/editor, I do hope the experience will help him in his future endeavors.
