The bigger bang for your buck

Posted by Cirno

I am a big fan of Touhou (not an expert at the danmaku games and decent at the fighting one ><). But when it comes to collecting figures from the series, fans overseas seem to have trouble attaining these elusive little things.

This morning I woke up to find my Marisa Nendoroid arriving at my door, much to my joy of finally having both Reimu and Marisa, I feel sort of down that I cannot buy other things for a veryyyyyy long time.......

But my grieves aside, are you one to spend big for the figure of your dreams? Or do you just like to expand your collection kingdom by having truckloads of non-exclusives in your room?

(As far as I am aware) I only have two exclusives.
Figma Reimu, who came today. And the Neo Revoltech EVA 00, from 7-11.
Though then there's Figma Marisa joining the fun in a few months~

    I spend alot of money. It's an addiction I'm trying to stop. Most often my end of the month loots are from 8-11-16 items at once, exclusives included. I usually open something then find out I hate it, sell it on ebay. In the end I'm only losing money but I've been doing good. I never regret anything I know I really want though ^^;

I saw one of your sales and I must say they really were too cheap for the nendoroid sets you had (^^;) I would have bought them if they had their boxes, otherwise it was a steal...the Dengeki exlusive Nao, Tokemeki Mall exclusive Theia and the game-bundled Sumomo...all three for $70 (>!!)>

You could have probably sold each one individually for about that much...though without the box probably less, maybe half cost at the very least.

If I really want a certain exclusive figure, I am willing to pay a good price if it's not TOO outrageous... probably not anything over double the original SRP, though. But it depends on just how much I do want said figure, but I have not made that exception yet, haha.

I usually stick to Mandarake for exclusives if I did not purchase them through a proxy service since Mandarake usually has better prices, though.

I'm very partial towards exclusives, limited and rarities in general whatever it may be. In terms of figures I would be in the former, though my spending has quelled since I realized it is rather a waste since they sit in their boxes packed in other boxes sitting patiently in a closet or on the bottom shelf of my bookcase.

I got into figure collecting by impulse which carried over into the choice of purchases I made. Although my collection is nothing (16 figures over the course of 2yrs) compared to what others have accomplished, I'm still rather happy with my lineup. All of my nendoroids are exclusive and/or limited (Just received Marisa and the recent Snow Miku last week) while the few 1/8ths I own are highly sought after (HobbyStock's Tsuzuri by Alter and Dengeki's Taiga by Kotobukiya to name a couple).

There's no doubt that they do in fact come at the cost of a pretty penny, I would say on average each figure cost roughly $90-100 to acquire. Yet at the same time I could very well sell them for that much or more so it works out. While most collectors would hardly even consider the notion of selling, I consider my collection an investment which is partly why I stray away from obtaining regular releases...even the ones I favor such as Saber Lily and the upcoming Azu-nyan (^^;)

I'll collect whatever strikes my interest. A figure being special edition doesn't really mean much to me, especially if it's a figure that's already been released but only has a couple changes to it.
I suppose the rarest figure I have right now is the Race Queen Miku Nendoroid, although it's still sitting in it's box due to other circumstances.

Yeah, Touhou FTW!!! I've recently become a fan as well, and I'm really itching to get those Touhou Griffon figs at amiami, if only I was not so skint at the moment(sigh). But I collect figures that I like wether they be exclusive or not I do have a few exclusives too, but most of them were acquired at reasonable if not cheaper compared to retail price.

I buy whatever figures I like (if I have the money of course), regardless limited/exclusive.

But when it comes to Touhou, to be honest I'm not interested with Nendoroud Reimu and Marisa. However, Remilia and Flandre will be another story :D

My first Touhou figure is Mameshiki Reimu Hakurei. I love it.

I don't mind exclusives for Touhou because I can understand the reasoning behind it. It is the creator's own request that all official and unofficial Touhou items have limited qualities to keep the franchise from becoming too commercial. However, for other items, it makes me cry. I have made it my goal to get as many of the Miku Nendoroids (regular-sized) as possible... I gave up on the Petits. The speed at which the Snow Miku Petit vanished is astonishing. There's too many of the petits and too many exclusives at that. So far, I've spent a MINT getting the various exclusive Miku Nendoroids out there and with each event like WonFes, I see new ones pop up. *Sigh* I wish they'd find some more expressions for her. XD

Nice Marisa. ^_^ I have Reimu already, Marisa is in the mail, and Sanae and Sakuya should be coming soon. Hopefully it will be a while before more Touhou Nendos come out or I'll be in the poorhouse.

I collect Nendo's and their related material like the three Phat company play sets and the PVC second half for the Kemeko DX Nendo. I only focus on full size Nendo's and so have no Petit's and asside from that I also collect the Nanaoha related Figma's.

To address the origional question I collect everything in order of release so if none of my online stores can supply me with a release I'll resort to e-bay, especialy for special release figures.

Given the tighter focus of my collecting I can spend a little more on the harder to get specials even if the seller has jacked up the price a bit. Otacute is great for most of the specials btw.
