Fun or chore?

I've been recently watching Sora no Woto (quite frankly an easygoing and pretty anime), so much to my interest I wandered onto a nearby forum and began reading comments on the show by other people. While most agreed with me and shared some of its up's and down's (without putting the show down too greatly), other people however began comparing the show to other recent anime and treating them as one in the same, and even going as far as calling it 'garbage' (I think if I were a producer, it would be pretty discouraging)
It is not so much that I have a grudge against such people, I am actually quite impressed that they could analyze things down to such a fine level (while i just watch it, laugh, and love). However, by doing the same thing, wouldn't it also take out any expectations remaining in the industry since much of today's shows share a similar premise with a different twist.
So to you all, have you ever come across someone like that, or are you highly critical yourself when watching something?

I have loads of friends who love anime (including me) but i do have a large majority of people who just think anime is a waste of time, but i've actually been able to get them over to my way of thinking that every anime is different and you would have to find a genre that suits ur taste. Cos tbh, i really like Sora No Woto due to its easy goin nature but my older bro is really into Mecha stuff like Gundam.
So really, is more taste if anything.
My best friend is very critical of shows. It's driving me crazy!! He always ends up watching a couple shows that come out every season, and I end up watching 7 or 8.
There's no harm in judging or grading an anime based on its characteristics. Discussing the merits, plot, artwork, predictability, music, etc. of an anime makes for interesting discussion if you are willing to look deeper into any specific show. A show that is more intellectually stimulating or unique captures people more than say... your typical romantic harem comedy that is formulaic, predictable, and recycled to death. On the other hand, sometimes you just want to watch something pretty and mindless to pass the time. *Shrugs*
From what I heard so far, most people don't appreciate slice-of-life genre such as Sketch Book: Full Color's and Aria...
Sora no Woto is considered a splice-of-life... ^_~ Light hearted and heartwarming...
I didn't continue watching this anime after a few episodes since I'm not really into it but I wouldn't call it garbage either. If you don't like it, don't watch it I guess. Like CookieDude said, it's up to the person's taste ^^;
Anime should be fun and not something that people should argue over ^^
hurm...
Maybe I should start watching anime again, cause sometime I found myself lack of ideas. And too indulge in working and studying... >_<
Anyone got a download site for sora no woto that doesn't involve file sharing?
the opening music captivate me ^w^
The thing is with Sora no woto is that on the surface its all slice of life, happy silly K-On clone. Yes there is a group of girls and there is music involved but that's just the beginning. There's been 2 episodes so far that have been mainly serious and all through the series there's been hints of darker themes. It doesnt ignore the fact that there's a war going on.
It's been a very nice surprise for me and while I wouldnt say its an amazing ground breaking show or anything it's been very enjoyable. I wish it would go into the darker storylines more. If you want mindless moe skip episode 7. Otherwise it's the best episode of the series so far for me.
Why so serious? Just sit back and enjoy the show. This is not a critical review subject (which I took this semester).
I guess I'm one of them people who are critical about stuff. First I analyze the artwork and animation. Should I find those unsatisfactory then I watch it more and hope that the story will make up for it. If I still don't like story then I abandon the show.
There will always be critics and there will always be the way to forgiving fans.
I don't really see it as a slice of life flick. There is more to the plot, but the plot isn't the seller point of the series. It's sold on MOE. So they try to beat that into us, throwing in slice of life, because that what sells.
I have been watching the show, and I enjoyed the first couple eps very much. But as time goes on, it's just losing it's appeal to me.
I think I am starting to feel the same as some of my friends. The whole MOE thing is getting out of hand. It seems like it's being used as a means to just put out something mediocre and make it "good" by making it moe. That's not to say I don't dislike moe. I just like it like I like spice on my food. Just the right combination of flavor (example: Clannand)
And for the record, I enjoy slice of life animes very much. Two of my favorite animes are Aria and Marimite.
To me "So-Ra-No-Wo-To" is easily one of the better series if not the best series this season. Shows terrific pacing, plot evolution, writing, good animation,... ^^
Not too sure why many people bash it but fear it's just the popular to to among the negative crowd who already condemned the series before it aired on the absurd assumption it would be like "K-ON!" due to similar character designs in the facial traits.
