A Really Vintage Figure
Here's a figure of Rabby, from the Star Front: Gall Force series of original figures. They came out before the anime Gall Force, which was released in 1986. That makes this figure older than 1986.
Some time ago, a littler and younger me was just getting into anime, and even then I was interested in both new and old anime series. Well, there was an old series called "Gall Force" which I thought was cool. Anyways, one day I went to the local comic book shop and they had a few boxes from a guy who had been collecting anime for a long time- before I was born. He was selling off his older stuff, so I decided to look through them. Littler me was amazed at some stuff called "Space Battleship Yamato", "Project A-Ko" and "Dirty Pair". At least I could recognize what Patlabor was!
I grabbed some neat artbooks, and some other stuff, but what I really liked was this figure of Rabby. It is 1/12 scale, and resin. I painted it a long time ago, and didn't exactly do a good job, but fortunately I used acrylics, so I can now use my current skill and access to an airbrush to fix it up- well, eventually, when I get some free time.
Instructions and boxtop to come.

Side view- I'm a bit embarrassed about the paint job. Okay, a lot embarrassed.

The Box- this is really what drew me into getting it. I like that sunny expression and pose.

Instructions- the first part.

And the next part of the instructions- note that she changes poses and expressions throughout.

On the back of the instructions was a page of lineart showing Rabby in action and whatnot. I'd like it if more figures included some art pages in them- it's a nice extra to have.
I'll try to upload full-scale versions of the instructions to my server space. My pages are slowly disintegrating, and I'd hate for this neat work to be lost.

Man, that is vintage. I love this new Vintage series! So many people have added to to the fun already.
Oh wow now this is REAL vintage!!!
She reminds me of my petite Iczer resin figures that I have yet to paint.
The sculpt is remarkably good too, considering how old it is- with a good paint job it'll look just fine.
I think you won lol.
This is about as "vintage" as bishoujo figures get. The 80's saw the real birth of bishoujo garage kits with Kaiyodo and General Products putting out great stuff. In fact, 1986 was around the time General Products moved to Tokyo; when the market really took off.
You truly own a piece of history there.
The thing that surprises me (well, maybe it shouldn't) is the quality of the sculpting. The figure is very much on-model, and all it would take is a good paint job to really bring that out. The resin used is every bit as good as modern resin, too. I have a similarly old Eve from Megazone 23 (I think I paid $5 for it a while back), and it was made from this awful soft solid PVC that just doesn't do anything. I also have a really early Kotobukiya figure that's more flash than figure. The Rabby, on the other hand, had almost no flash, and no air bubbles.
Could be the photos, but I don't think that's a very shabby paint job at all. :P
And...wow? Figures older than I am...
Thanks- it's a lot worse in real life, however. Once I'm a bit more comfortable with my airbrushing, I'll give it a repaint.
Do keep us updated. I'm very interested in seeing a Rabby redux.
finally, a really true vintage! lol XD
awesome!
Amazing. I'd love to have an old figure like that I only have mini ones from the 80's
