My 1st post here + custom figma miku

Posted by Sovereign

Hello everyone, I'm Sovereign (that's my actual middle name). I've been around for more than a year now, but haven't yet posted until today out of a mix of shyness, business, laziness, etc. Anyways, about me; I'm an avid figure collector (mostly figma) and have built up quite a collection along the way. I'm also a budding customizer and am currently juggling a few projects. Here's one of them, a custom Miku figma with her long hair untied and left to sway in the breeze.

Here she is with a custom wink face to recreate "RankaWink." Next to her is another custom I'm working on, Yowane Haku.

I've decided to add some more pictures of Haku, now that I'm getting accustomed to the edit system. Here she is by herself (the guitar is from Witch Yuki). Her ponytail is made out of Superflex Sculpey with an armature wire inside. This makes it possible to bend it into any number of poses or even wrap it around her body.

Here's another pic of Haku, getting drunk with a bottle of sake. BTW, the tie she has on in the previous pic with Miku is removable.

I use Tamiya Epoxy Putty, but for larger things regular old sculpey works fine too. As for paint, I use Citadel paints for small stuff and Montana spray paints for larger items.

Wow, those look amazing ^^ And is that a Teto figma you happen to be using as your display picture?

No, it's not Teto. That's just an orange repaint with curly hair. I call her "Mikan" which means tangerine/orange.

The materials I use are: Miku figma as a base, superflex sculpey + armature wire for hair, Tamiya Epoxy putty for detail work, and Citadel paint and Montana spray paint for coloring.

Thank you! As soon as I finish painting her accent colors and DTM mark, I'll make a new thread about building her.

You might want to build up on Haku's hair some more to make it look not so flat. Otherwise, I can't wait to see her finished! you should put up some pictures of the orange swirl in your icon too. I really like the Halloween colors.

(Also, mind me asking what you used to remove Miku's left eye so that you could make her wink?)

About Haku's hair, I agree that it does look flat. I've been trying to sculpt another ponytail for her with more volume, but that's been interfering with its flexibility. At any rate, the finished product will have a better ponytail, and probably a bigger ribbon.

About the wink face, I didn't remove the left eye. I just painted over it with fleshtone paint and painted a wink over that.

You could try to model it after the ponytail on the petit nendoroid. It curves inwards on the inside, leaving enough space so that it doesn't touch her rump/back and then it's slightly layered on the outside. Slight curls on the ends like what you did with Miku would probably help even if you don't add much to the rest.

That makes sense, don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks.

This is really good! If you were just skimming over the pictures you'd think that they were official figma's.

I'm really getting into making custom Figmas and I wanna use many different types of Figmas to make the characters from the manga/anime Shugo-Chara. Any tips?
