Revoltech Shin(New) Getter-1 Review and Mini-Gallery
Partly to show off a prized acquisition, and to show what Revoltech fans who bought late into the toy line might or might not have missed.

For those who don't know, this particular Revoltech has the priviledge of being the first toy sold in the series. As, such, this is pretty rare nowadays, and can fetch a hefty sum on various bidding sites around the 'net if brand new. Bought mine from a local dealer cheap as it was already used, and apart from the mildly beaten box, the condition of the toy was quite excellent with no missing parts and no damage to the figure.
Anyway, this is Getter-1 as seen in the rebooted anime series "新ゲッターロボ (New Getter Robo)"

The toy is mostly unpainted red plastic, namely the arms, upper torso, lower legs and feet. The other colors are mostly painted over them. The paintwork on mine is very good, apart from a small splotch of silver on the right arm, but I can live with that. The face is done quiet neatly, and the green chest plates have a nice translucent effect going on. The toy's proportions are nice, using the fat robots look that Go Nagai's stable of robots have come to acquire in recent years.

Now for the articulation. I was actually surprised to find out when I finally got this figure that it only had 4 Revolver joints. Compare that to the Revoltechs we get nowadays, and it seems criminal to use so few of these joints. But back then, Revolver joints use was just a bit more of a gimmick to set Revoltech apart from other toylines.
Thankfully, this gimmick (among other things) propelled the toy's popularity, and we get to enjoy all the other characters available to us these days (if we can find them).

The Revolver joints are in the feet and knees, and have as much movement as the ones we see on our Revoltech Getter Robos today.
Most of the articulation is supplied via the "Monoshaft Drive system" a holdover from earlier Kaiyodo toy releases. It's really just a bunch of hidden swivel points on the body that allow you to pose the toy more dynamically. You could see this system in action in Kaiyodo's Virtual-on toyline, also sculpted by Yamaguchi.
I don't really know how to count the points of articulation on the toy, but there are 19 I think; Along with the aforementioned Revolver joints, it has 4 points in the hips, 2 in the elbows, 4 in the shoulders, 2 in the hands, 1 in the upper torso, and 2 in the neck. Posability is ample, but somewhat restrained, mostly in the hips and shoulders, similar to what we see on the later Ingram version one releases. This IS the first Revoltech released, so I was expecting as much. Still, you can get a lot of action poses out this toy.

The Getter Robo's accessories include a stand with a simple attachment for flying poses, the Getter Tomahawk you see in the pictures above, and a nice pair of Getter wings that snap onto the shoulders, much like the ones on the Getter Dragon. They fit nice and tight, but a bit tricky to pull of as the edges feel kinda sharp. I keep picturing a cut on my fingers after an attempt to remove them, guh.

It also comes with a Getter Beam effect part that you attach to a slot in the abdomen. I like it, but it has a tendency to fall off if you bend the upper torso forward. It actually looks like the Stoner Sunshine effect part you get with the Revoltech Shin Getter Robo, just a bit smaller.

My thoughts on finally getting this was "Why didn't I get this earlier? This is a pretty good toy!". And indeed, it is a nice figure to add to any robot-lover's collection. Just another one of those moments where I thought that nobody would buy it, but they did, bleh.
I hope my review was informative enough, if a bit wordy, eheh. If you're interested in this Revoltech, and have the chance get one (reasonably priced of course), then I would say "yes, get it you goon". Not only is it a good-looking, well articulated toy, but it also a small piece of plastic toy history. That, and you get bragging points for having one, hahahaha!

The original picture I used and modified.

Back when my plan was to have all the Revoltechs, This was one I really wanted but couldn't ever find. I think my earliest Revoltechs are Optimus Prime and Revy. ^_^ Glad you found one for yourself!

Thanks. One had popped up earlier, but I didn't get it. Thankfully, I found another one at the same price.
