日本町 Japan Town – Dec 20th
Just finished making the post for my Japan Town trip on my blog. Great timing as we are holding a DC meet-up next month for the Sakura Matsuri. Those who are thinking of going but never actually been there can check out some of my photos.
On Dec 20th, last year, during winter break, me and my friends went to Japan Town in San Francisco to hang out together. This is my 2nd time there (excluding the times years ago), check out the 1st time we went there. Despite being the 2nd time, we still got lost for 3 mins. :P
This is my 1st time taking my DSLR out far, was a scary exprience. The entire post can found on my blog. It's kind image-heavy with close to 40 photos. Other-wise this is copied from the blog post.

As usual, get off from the Muni (2 or 3) and this will be the 1st thing you see. Always nice to pick a few snacks here before hitting the mall.

They carry a bunch of different Pocky…

…and a whole bunch of other Japanese snacks. Reminds me of Hong Kong. ^ ^

Love these things, very sour. Also indicates unhealthiness. ^ ^;

These look good…never bought any though.

Time to head to the plaza, get out of the store and walk straight ahead.
My friend is sharing his Pocky. ^ ^;

I remember that years ago, this used to flow with water. I wonder why they stopped it now…

Turned around for a shot…

We went to a resturant as soon as we got there, we skipped breakfast and were starving! (I am not in any of these photos because I am the one taking them. ^ ^;)

I used a coupon for a dish of free sushi. Check the official site for some printable coupons. This was the only reason we ate there, I would have preferred Izumiya.
This is the 1st time I took a picture of food with a figure I believe. ^ ^

(Fat) Haruhi: I am drowning!

This is what I ordered: Beef Curry. To be honest, this was not tasty at all, it wasn’t even spicy. When she asked me whether I want it mild or spicy, I thought she meant mildly spicy! No om nom nom for me…

A guy stopped me from taking pictures after I took this one. The store was AutoFreak. I don’t get why no pictures allowed, it’s free advertisement afterall! It’s not like this store has 18+ stuff like the anime store next to it….

Yay, JPN Toys. The 2 female employees this time (it changes every time I go to Japan Town…) was very nice. The prices can feel steep sometimes, but like I said before, it’s like instant shipping.
Also, this was 3 months ago, so don’t expect the same stock if you go.

They have a bunch of Nendoroids here, no Nagi or Kagamiku though. T.T

Everytime I go, it seems that they always have stock of Haruhi… they should get a wider variety of Figmas too.

Some pictures of figures that they were selling. Nothing really interested me, you?
Visit the blog post if you are interested in the rest. ^ ^

Ah, what a nice place. If only we had a place like this over here.
Darn you delicious looking picture reminding me how much I love Osakaya's chicken katsu curry ;_; My fave restaurant in the mall
If you like SF J-Town, you'll LOVE Little Tokyo here in LA. Oh yeah: Torrance and Gardena (South Bay area of Greater Los Angeles) are awesome too and maybe a bit bigger. And Torrance has a Volks Tenshi no Sumika! It's only open on the weekends.
I probably will never visit LA. I don't have a car and don't plan on driving until later. Sounds like a nice place though. ^ ^
My ultimate goal is Japan itself. Everything else is pale in comparison.
My one visit to Japan, one store in Akihabara outshines an entire Dealers room in an Anime convention.
Little Tokyo is great.
As far as I know, Torrance has the only Okinawan restaurant in the country. If not, outside of Okinawa and all of Japan. It also has one of only two karaoke places I go to.
Actually, that is totally not true. I know that there are several Okinawan restaurants here in Hawaii. I also find it hard to believe that there are so few Okinawan restaurants outside of Japan. I'm sure if you go to places with a large number of Japanese transplants (like Brazil), you should be able to find other Okinawan restaurants.
I'll never eat at one of those restaurants inside the mall anymore. It's too expensive for me, and the taste didn't justify the price... It's probably just me, though.
Try Izumiya if you haven't. I really like that restaurant. especially its Gyu Donburi. The other restaurants don't fancy me.
Which one is it? The one in front of jpntoys?
No, it's in a corner all the way in the back, next to the Kinokuniya gift shop or in front of the stairs leading down.
I try to go to Jtown weekly. Normally I go with some friends to have our routine Ramen, book store, jpntoy and the market for snacks.
Weekly? I go about once per 4 months. I go whenever there's a major break. ^ ^;
I live in SF, so it easy lol. Plus I drive.
Wow, actual figures in a store that is not in Japan itself....Whish I had that.
But looks like you had a fun day ^^
Nice~ wish there's a place like that here D:
Is this really in japan or there's a japan town in your state?
This is Japan Town in San Francisco. The city has one of three Japan Towns in the country. As someone said already, there's a Japan Town/Little Tokyo in Los Angeles also. The other one is in my city of residence: San Jose. All three are within hours from each other.
Normally, I go here whenever I'm in San Francisco and I'm in San Francisco around two or three times a year. However, because I'm back looking for a job, I only visit the city only once a year at most. If I remember correctly, I had okonomiyaki with a friend and we went to our friend's place the last time I was in Japan Town.
All I can say is...
Is that a california roll? I'm afraid you won't find those in Japan. They were invented in Vancouver.
