Real life strategizers and RTSes

Yes, I realise I am spamming the news, but this will be it for today...but anyway I have been thinking about getting back into RTS, I use to play back when I was a little chap. And remember the days of sucking at Star Craft 1, since then I have barely frequented the genre with a couple visits to Warcraft 3 and Dota, where unless I have someone telling me (who has general knowledge in RTS) I would fail.
But the question that is running through my mind is whether real-life skills translate/carry over. For example a lot of friends I know that play and are good at RTS tend to be quite good at strategy games such as Chess, Checkers, Chinese checkers and all that...whilst those like me who are more FPS and RPG, are able to think on there feet, yes they seem similar as strategy is about thinking but I'm sure those that play FPS can tell you want I mean.
SO my question to you guys is, have you noticed any such relation? Do you have this relation?
As for me, I'm a FPS/RPG type of guy, FPS cause it's different everytime and RPG cause I like games that last me along time, so when Borderlands came out...Jackpot!!
Please and Thank you :D
(Do tell me if that made no sense to you xD)
Would like to know who is what~

FPS is boring if I play it repeatedly & RPG consumes a lot of my time. I do play them and my personal favorite is the old Phantasy Star series.
RTS on the other hand provides limitless possibilities on how to play the game. Games like Starcraft and Red Alert are seriously my high. But now I play much complex RTS like Hearts of Iron and Europa Universalis, if those are counted as RTS.
I play more FPS cos i like games i can quickly jump in and jump out of easily.
I do play RPGs when i have the time and same goes for RTSs.
I actually play all of these a lot, despite being horribly bad at games.
I think the connection you see there might be that some have more strategic minds and tend to think several steps ahead: This kind of thinking gives them an advantage when playing strategy games like chess as well as when playing RTS.
Others can react quickly and have good eye-hand coordination, making them good at FPS.
I, on the other hand, tend to be a bit of a slow person - I generally prefer Round-based RPGs like Persona or Final Fantasy, because they do not urge me to make decitions in a hurry.
However, I think I am quite good (compared to any of my other skills, that is) at understanding how a system works, which helps me in RPGs, where understanding e.g. the mechanics of the combat system (and how different stats affect the outcome of a battle).
Just an idea!
I do occasionally play a RTS, and i absolutely adored Homeworld, and Homeworld2. While i handily beat the single player campaigns whenever i play online i tend to get schooled. I don't think its for lack of strategy so mush as i've never taken he time to become really slick at the scheme.
i feel like the key to winning at RTS's is knowing the proper order to build rescorces/upgrades, and entering the commands to do so at a dizzying speed, so yours are done before everyone else's. Then its just being adept at assigning your units the proper "rook/paper/scissors" target at equally fast speeds.
FPS on the other hand, im know for turning gamespeed up on so i can get my twitch on.
PRG wise, im very much on board. they speak to my obsessive compulsive tendencies, as well as my analytical "i will 'break' the game because i can" needs.
I play various genre. RPG is my fave but now I also playing FPS like Point Blank.
When playing FPS for the first time I got problem because this game require a lot of sharp eyes, hand and mind coordination. And I must think fast and act fast because the moment I engaging with the enemy, it takes less than 2 second to find out who's get kill/killed. :D
RTS game is another matter, since mostly I play online. I decided to leave FPS behind because the game duration can take 30 minutes to find out the winner :D (Which is drain my money in cyber cafe XD)
FPS and RPG are more of my kind of thing, though I play RTS too. But with all three games I have a tendency of shying away from the games' PvP features. Just can't get into it.
As to whether they do carry over... Well most RTS tend to teach the player how to strategize the hard way if you just keep rushing with one unit, and there are many combined-arms tactics you can use to bury your opponent. And Pokemon as a long-running RPG now has fifty-thousand combat/contest combinations you can get with each 'Mon; frankly speaking, PvP has become impossible for me because I am simply unable to invest the time and effort to make them PvP worthy.
As for FPS, ALL of them carry a few simple rules that I find extremely useful IRL and anywhere else: Keep your head low and Think before you act.
The above rule especially applies to Counter-Strike. >_<
