Selling Mashiro? (DD advice would be appreciated!)

This isn't actually a sales post. Not yet, anyhow...

I have a bit of a problem, and I'm hoping some of you with more experience with Dollfie Dream daughters will be able to help me! I've been accepted for a job in Japan and (as long as the paperwork goes smoothly) I'll be leaving within the next couple months and not returning for several years....

Because of this, I'm at a loss for what to do with Mashiro. On the one hand, I would be in Japan and able to buy her new outfits and such more easily. But, it would be extremely difficult to make room for her in my luggage that will carry my clothes and necessities for the next few years. TT; Also, I'm somewhat of a perfectionist and REALLY don't want to hurt Mashiro's wig or outfit in any way, should I have to squeeze them tightly in my suitcases. I suppose I could bring her nude and buy her new clothes abroad, but then I'd wonder what would happen if my bags got checked at the airport and a nude, well-endowed DD is found among my possessions. ;;;

On the other hand, if I left her behind at my home she would simply gather dust for the next few years with no one to take care of her. orz And I'd worry about her getting damaged/stained/etc.

And so, that brings me to my questions. Should I try to take Mashiro with me? And if so, what would be the best way to transport her?

Or. If I couldn't bring her, would anyone be interested in purchasing/adopting her? You would have to promise to be a loving parent! I don't think I could let her go if I knew she'd be mistreated. - -;

She's my first DD and I'd really rather not sell her, but any number of things could happen if I try to take her...

Congrats in getting a job in Japan!

Well, my advice is to take her with you. The head could be easily transported with your carry on and you could just get her another body in Japan, even though I don't think it would be a big deal to wrap the body in white towel to bring her along with you. By taking Mashiro with you, you could take her outside and shoot many wonderful photos, the potential reward, I believe, far outweigh the risk you mentioned.

Ohhh! I hadn't thought of just removing her head! That would make her so much easier to transport. TTb And you're right, the photos would be amazing~

Thank you very much for the advice! This was just what I wanted to hear since I'm likely too attached to her to sell her. XD

If I were you, I would bring her with me :) At least I can play with her when I have no one. About transporting, how about wrapping her with bubbles and load her in your luggage. I think the man at the airport won't interest in her so much ^^

XD That's a good idea! I do worry about her getting banged up in a suitcase, but bubble wrap would protect her from moisture and rough rides. Thank you!

The second biggest problem aside from damage is space. Since I'll be bringing everything I need to live in another country, I won't have much room to spare for her 60cm body. orz But bubble wrap is a must!

Thanks <3 I'm definitely leaning towards bringing her /o/

I recently moved and both myself and my sister put our dollfies in

fix. I defiantly think you should bring her. Also good luck with the job~!

Yeah, the wig is definitely one of my biggest concerns since I don't want to ruin the style of her default. But I could just leave it here and buy a new one there, right? XD

      Anyhow, thanks!

I would definitely take her with me if I were you, I would just bring it with me on the plane....wrap her with some white towels and put her without the wig in a bag.
If not, I wish I could adopt her, but recently volks announced a new DD's and wanted to go for that ones...good luck!

I transport three vinyl dolls (A DD, a MDD and an Obitsu boy) in a rolling duffel bag. They get wrapped in baby blankets, and packed in between big bath towels. I keep their wigs in zip lock bags in a side pocket of the duffel.

If space is really limited you could repackage her full set and bubble wrap her head for travel, you can always sell off the body. Then when you arrive in japan you could just buy her a new one ^^

if you have to take alot of cloths i would suggest getting a violin case( volks sells them) and take her as carry on. because if i r ember right you cant bring your own liquids or food on the plane any more and electronics could easily be carried in your pockets unless you have a laptop. and as a carry on at least you know she is with you and safe, the only problem i can see is the x ray people might give you some stares and you might have to open it lol

You could pack her up nicely here but don't take her on your flight to Japan. Then have some one here ship her to your Japan address. Will be a bit expensive but it's just like having them shipped from Japan (only reversed!) ^^

The good thing about that is, I kept the box Volks originally shipped her in so it would be the perfect size for her doll box. You're right, shipping would be pricey, but it's definitely an option. - -b

        Shipping isn't that pricey and is worth it. If you do not have enough space to bring her as carry on (which is easy to manage actually) then shipping is the way to go. I'll eventually be having 450 figures being shipped to Japan XD Now THAT is expensive lol ^^;

I was just thinking of a silly idea, you should just carry her on the plane in your arms and sit her in your lap! She's not a bag, she's not luggage, she's your daughter! Of course she could be hurt that way being out in the open and it could be annoying to have her out the whole way to Japan and it'd take some guts to put up with the stares and questions.

You could always mail her to yourself if you have the address where you will be staying. Or have a friend mail it to you later(pack it yourself and tell them to mail it to you when you get the address).

      LOL.

That would actually be pretty darn hilarious. And since I'm not a guy, it wouldn't come off as overly creepy either. XD ...But there would definitely be stares as well as the snickers and jokes from whoever my soon-to-be coworkers are.

Would definitely need to pack it myself. I couldn't trust someone else to be as careful with Mashiro as I am. ;D

I took Yumiko home with me one day on the train. It was the first time I had her out anywhere and it was my first exposure to how genuinely fascinated and captivated people are by large-scale dolls. She sat in the seat next to me and I occasionally took pictures. People would pass by and ooh and ahh at her. Especially little girls. I'm sure it's somewhat cultural, but most people who actually verbalize their admiration of her are females.

Now, a Dollfie Dream Dynamite, on the other hand...that's a guy magnet. Especially Yoko. I call my friend Ebi's Yoko "Ebi's Attention Getting Device." She gets TONS of attention anywhere she goes, particularly when she's wearing the default outfit. Which stains something fierce, alas.

My MDD and my Obitsu boy also have this aura of "I'm awesome, check me out." Seriously, only ONE person was ever creeped out by them. And that was only because my Obitsu boy auto-decapitated right in front of her...screwed up old-school head connector. After I replaced his head connector with a new type one he was fine. I can understand why taking off a wig and peeling back his head cap and futzing around in his head would freak someone out if they were casually observing.

Take her with you! Buy a Dollfie carrying case or something that can hold her. One thing I dislike about the new DD packaging is that they bodies are no longer placed on cushions. When I picked up Saber, she was on a cushion which I am now using with the case. For the face, they make theses covers which fit perfectly over the face and protect them. They are really cheap and should be easy to find. Don't know if you knew about the face cover or not, but I thought I just add it in. I did all this and wrapped Saber in bubble-wrap and just carried her with me on the flight. The passenger sitting next to me thought that I was carrying a flute and security really didn't say much. XD

Congrats on the job in Japan! I think that instead of taking her with you on the plane, what you should do is that if you know the address that you are going to be living, just have her shipped to that address before you leave and when you get there you may just pick it up, or it may arrive a day after you do, perhaps. That's what I would do if I didn't have room for her.

People on Den of Angles have successfully traveled with resin dolls, which are definitely heavier and more fragile (and by extension more difficult to transport) than DDs. Usually what these people did was either wrap up the doll head and body in their clothing, and tuck clothes and wig away in other spaces in the checked luggage (since clothes and wigs have different ideal packing environments, I guess), or took the doll in one of their carry-on bags. The latter is especially popular with nervous fliers, since they have a little "spirit of home" with them, so to speak.

I wouldn't worry too much about stuff getting messed up if you pack her intelligently. Use your own pale clothes as a packing material for her, since it's soft and you'll need it anyway! If you still have the original net, box, and bag for her wig, that would probably be ideal, but tying it back and putting it in a ziploc bag is probably a viable alternative, since hers is a relatively simple style and can probably be cured of "package head" with a little water on arrival.

As for security issues, these thankfully seem to be pretty rare. However, if you do encounter a problem (more likely in the US leg of the trip, I would imagine), you are allowed to ask for any searches they conduct to be made in private rather than right there in the terminal. Depending on who's conducting it, you may have to get a little bitchy about it (since, let's face it, some people let their jobs get to their heads), but it doesn't change the fact that private searches are perfectly within your rights, and probably preferable given that DDs are more anatomically correct than most other dolls. I have heard of one instance where the owner of a resin doll was asked to take her doll apart to prove she wasn't using it to smuggle drugs (I know, WTF?), but that's the only case of that nature I've heard of.

So, congrats on getting to go to Japan, and yes, take her! She'll probably be a great treatment for any homesickness, too.

Oh wow, I can't even imagine how much more difficult it would be with a resin body versus the light DD body. orz I'd be more tempted to bring Mashiro in a carry on, but I'll have to search for one that can fit her comfortably. And fortunately, I kept everything that the doll originally came with, from the wig net to each individual plastic bag, so I should be alright with the clothing at least. Though... the wig is probably my biggest concern, and I'm somewhat tempted to leave it here and buy a new one abroad. XD

Thank you for all of the tips! The private search will especially be something helpful to remember since I'll likely be traveling with future coworkers and don't want them to think I'm weird for carting around a nude, dolly body. XDD I just hope nothing like a drug search is conducted. I feel so bad for her!

Take her with you! I'll have to get two or three resin dolls back to the UK with me when I leave Japan, and they're definitely coming with me, although being strung dolls I can just take them apart for easier transport.

It would be a bit odd if airport security made a fuss over a DD - they're obviously dolls and if it's not dangerous or restricted goods then it's none of their business why you have one. As long as you keep her wrapped up safe in some bubble wrap she should be fine. If you're shipping belongings out separately you could always put her body in with that and take the head in your hand luggage, and if not you could just take the whole doll on the plane with you.

I have an idea, just don't know if it works for you or not.

First, pack her up the way you think is the safest to mail a package.
Then you go to Japan , get your address, and ask a family member or friend to mail it to you.
In this case you don't have to carry it in the luggage, avoid the security check and possible damage to your daughter.

Everyone's been dying to get a DD and your having conflicts... Kinda jealous of you there my friend.

Anyways, don't ship her to your residence. Bring her along with you. Like one post stated here, you can decrease the number of clothes that you have to bring cause entirely you'd be buying your stuff in Japan after a month or so.

Are you tight on the budget? Why not go a little bit over the baggage limit.
IF you see Mashiro as something precious to you then the answer to all of this would be simple and as clear as the blue sky...

" BRING HER WITH YOU! "

IF i'm in your shoes i don't mind bringing my items along with me even if i ended up going over the baggage count. I have a motto that i will live throughout my life.

" What i got with my own money will remain by my side no matter what "
    - which is why i will never sell any of my collected items.

I'm not sure it's something to be "jealous" of necessarily. I worked hard to get the money for this DD, so it's not as though someone just handed Mashiro to me one day. ^^; In fact, some might think of this as an opportunity to receive Mashiro from a US seller if they didn't win the lottery back in November (though I'd really rather keep her, as I said before). And if you want a DD as well, I'm sure you'll be able to realize that dream someday. /o/

I am a little tight on money since I will have to have over a thousand dollars on hand with me just for housing costs and food when I arrive, so I'm trying to save as much as I can at the moment. Also, I'm on the small side, and it's VERY difficult for me to cart around heavy luggage by myself (I know, as this was the situation for study abroad in Japan last year), so this is why I'm worried about space.

Anyhow, thank you for the suggestions.

you should take her with you! and as for the travelling buy a bag/case for dollfies. They sell cheapish ones at dollmore and she could be your hand luggage. And security doesn't matter just say yeah i like dolls! haha ^^

I also just moved to Japan few weeks ago along with my Mai. What I did before departing is taking off her clothes, removed her head, wigs, and her feet then put them in a compact plastic box to fit my backpack. The rest of the body I wrapped it with my T-shirt and dragged along in my hand luggage. Japanese Custom didnt have any problem with it. If you are that lack of space I think you can disassemble some of her joints then relocate it later.

I've read every single comment posted here and there are so many good ideas! I agree with taking her head in your carry on bag and wrapping the body in your case, I also think just take the clothes you seriously cannot manage without to make more room, I'm sure once you hit Japan it won't be long til you find your way to the shops!^^
Even if you had her on your lap on the plane, don't worry about what other people you're not going to meet again will think. I think it's nice that you're starting out on a new journey and will have an old friend with you!
Many congratulations on your new job, I hope you have a tremendously wonderful experience! xxx
